“For thousands of years, mankind has been the subject of time. MARC & SONS want you to share this enthusiasm for time. From a long experience we know that a watch is more than an instrument for reading time. We and many of our customers are of the opinion that a watch gives the person wearing it a special and individual lifestyle.
At the present time a watch is one of the most worn accessories, and thus forms the perfect complement to our clothing. A watch provides you several times a day with the information of time and thus constitutes a precision instrument. MARC & SONS has made it its mission to connect the high utility value of a measuring instrument with the aesthetics so that the individuality of person wearing it is underlined. We want to give our customers a perfect combination of functionality, personal style and way of life along the way.
In order to meet the high demands of our customers we use only components of known and renowned parts manufacturers. The quality movements we set mainly come from the world-renowned manufacturer ETA or Citizen. Only then is it possible to offer our customers a quality product at the highest level and to ensure a long usage.”
Marc & Sons is a German watch company that was founded in 2007. Their watches vary from dress watches to rugged sport watches, and their pricing is very good (affordable), given the components of the watches they sell. For this watch review, the company has sent one of its Model MSD-033 professional diver models. This is an diver, with an automatic/mechanical movement, sapphire crystal and ceramic bezel.
The packaging for the MSD-033 is rather nice given the price point of the watch. The watch box is covered in black fake leather with matching black stitching. Only thing I didn’t like is the font they used for “Marc & Sons” name on the box, it looks cheap and chinese. The inside of the box is lined with a light tan velour throughout all of its surfaces. The inside of the lid has an elastic pocket, which holds the watches warranty card as well as the watch instruction manual.
The MSD-033‘s case is constructed of 316L stainless steel. The case’s finish has a nice brushed appearance throughout its entire surface. The finishing on the case looks very nice and is consistently applied throughout the watch. The case shape itself is a very traditional design, which is based on the older style Submariner cases.
The watch has a unidirectional divers bezel with 120 clicks. The bezel insert is made of ceramic and is black with a white divers countdown scale. The surface of the bezel insert has a glossy finish, which serves as a nice contrast to the otherwise matte finish of the rest of the watch. The bezel action is very firm, but there is a little play in it after going past each “click”. But it’s ok with me. And not like it will turn by every slight touch of it. The bezel insert includes an illuminated pip within the triangle at the 12 o’clock position. This sits slightly recessed from the surface of the insert. The watch’s sapphire crystal sits just above the surface of the bezel and has a blue tinted antireflective coating applied to its underside. The antireflective coating isn’t the best, but it does it’s job. The watch’s 316L stainless steel screw-in caseback has a fairly simple design. The field of the watch is brushed in a circular pattern and around the outside of the caseback the technical information is nicely engraved into the finish.
The MSD-033’s screwdown crown is a nice size at 7.0 mm in diameter. The crown has a brushed finish and the Marc and Sons logo engraved into its end. It’s notched grips makes it fairly easy to manipulate when setting the time and it has a nice, smooth feel as well as nice action. On the left hand side of the case at the ten o’clock position, the watch has a manual helium release valve. The valve has a similar design to the watch’s crown, with a notched grip design and brushed finish.
The dial is flat black in color with white painted hour markers (numbers), hash marks and company logo painted at the 12 o’clock position on the dial. The hands are traditional sword style hands. They have a glossy white frame and white Superluminova luminous paint applied. The minute and seconds hand have orange accents, and the dial really “pops out”. The lume is great on this watch. I tested it by charging the superluminova with led bulb for one hour, and then left it overnight by my bed, and after 7-8hours I could still be able to read time in the dark!
The review watch came equipped with a 316L stainless steel bracelet. The bracelet has a nice 5 piece link design, with an engaved line down the center of each link. It is very comfortable on the wrist and the short length of the links helps it to mold to your wrist when worn. The bracelet comes with a diver’s safety clasp installed. The clasp has a nice brushed finish and has the Marc & Sons logo engraved into its surface. But for this review I put it on my Colareb strap, as I don’t like wearing watch on steel bracelets.
The MSD-033 comes equipped with a Citizen Miyota Caliber 8215 automatic movement. This is a widely used and dependable movement that is used across the industry. It can wind automatically when you move your wrist, or by hand, using the crown. I personally wind my watches by hand with the crown, as it gives you that connection with the movement “hearth of the watch”
Overall it’s a great German watch for a reasonable price! If you have spare 200-250 euros to spend on a watch, definitely take Marc & Sons watch! It feels and looks like a watch for 1000 or more euros. You won’t be disappointed!
