I seen quite a lot of watches that come out of China, anyone who looks at a watches under the $1,000 will see them. I reviewed the Rodina Bauhaus watch this week and the Sea-Gull Watch Store also sent me their first in-house watch. The GT & FQ M0001 Rider Automatic ! And I got to say, I was a bit surprised about the quality and look of the watch. Usually you don’t see a watch from china made so well. This just shows us how the China watchmaking industry has grown in the last 3-5 years.
The Sea-Gull Watch store are main suppliers of GTFQ , Seagull and Rodina watches in Europe and China. The movement in the watch is a Sea-Gull ST1780. As I read in watchuseek forum about this movement, it is reliable and could last 100 years with proper care. I showed this watch to one of my friends who works at watch-repair shop and he was surprised about the movement, and he thought it was Swiss made. The movement has both a power reserve meter and a small second hand, as well as a sub dial for the date. The movement is nicely machined finished, visible through the case back.
The dial is nicely finished, with the subdials inset against the silver sunray burst dial. The subdial hands are heat blued, though the main hands are fairly basic. The indexes are rhodium plated applied arrowheads, adding another element of depth to the dial. The dial to me looks like something from 60s. It has that dressy/classic watch feel to it, but also has that modern appearance.
The watch is very slim 12mm, with an inset pusher on the side of the case to adjust the date. The 41mm case is brushed stainless. The only downside maybe I could find is the strap. It isn’t the best quality and definitely will wear out fast, but it isn’t the biggest problem in the world. You can surely just leave the strap and wear it, it is quite comfortable.
Overall, it is a nice looking dress watch. It isn’t so dressy that you can’t wear it as a everyday watch with t-shirt. The price, quality, movement, looks overall makes great watch to add to your collection, and if you don’t like this one, there are plenty other models in the same price range on www.seagullwatchstore.com. It really makes a good gift for Christmas 😉
