Botta Design UNO 24 NEO (Review)

Single-hand watches aren’t anything new to watch the world, but from a modern standpoint, probably one of the most important brands to know about in regard to single-hand watches with contemporary designs is Botta Design, by German Klaus Botta. I think it was the mid-1980s that he first released his modern collection of single-handed “Uno” watches. According to Botta Design, it was Klaus Botta himself who produced the first ever wristwatch with a single-hand. And all the Botta Design watches are handmade in Germany with Swiss quartz and mechanical movements.

Botta Design single-handed watches (as is the case with most) come in two forms. All of them have one hand, but some display the time in a 24-hour format, and some in a 12-hour format. The wearing experience between the two is very different. Botta Design Uno watches indicate the time with one hand in a 12-hour format, whereas Botta Design Uno 24 watches indicate the time in a 24-hour format, meaning the hand goes around the dial one time each day.

Today we gonna look at Uno 24 Neo watch. First of all, I want to talk about the packaging. It is really unique. It came in this cylindrical shape case made from aluminium. Never seen anything like this. Reminded me something from space/future films.

Uno 24 Neo is truly a great looking timepiece. The case is 3 piece and is made from 316L stainless steel. The case is round shape with hidden lugs behind the case. The case is 40mm big without crown (with crown it’s around 41-41,5mm) and with a thickness of 7,5mm. Weight is 43 grams. Water resistance is 3ATM and it’s good enough. The case finishing is brushed, and it’s done in the best German traditions. The case back is sandblasted and has with engravings of the model, water resistance, where it’s made and material of the case. The crown is small and simple, nothing to add there. The crystal is Sapphire glass with the scratchproof anti-reflective coating. And it does its job very well.

Dial I think is what makes this exact model special. Those lime green accents make the dial really pop out. And in some way, the watch looks like some kind of measuring instrument from an aircraft. It has a 24h dial with one hand that also does the function of minutes hand. The dial is in two tones of grey which marks where the daytime and night time is. The darkest grey part is night and lightest grey part is the day. In the typical 9,12,3,6 markers, we have 9,12,18 and 0 markers in lime green colour. Around the dial there is black “ring” that has minutes indicators in white, each section is 10 minutes. The hand is in brushed stainless steel with lime green/black accent where it attaches to movement. You also have small, but visible date window at 0-hour marker.

Movement is Swiss Made Quartz Ronda 515.24H with date function. As we all know, the Ronda is very reliable. It has 4-year battery life and runs very smooth. The strap is genuine leather handmade in Germany. It also has written on the strap, that it’s anti-allergic. It is soft and wears a bit stiff for the first time, but after wear, or two it wraps around your wrist and sits nicely. The buckle is sandblasted 316. stainless steel. It has no markings on it, so nothing special there.

Great looking watch. Definitely a great addition to your collection. It will compliment any collection to my opinion. I like the modern look of it, and the craftsmanship is amazing. And the fact that it’s handmade, is something that appeals to me. It maybe isn’t the cheapest option from 24h watches, but it is worth it.
