We have looked at many one hand watches, Botta design, Slow watches and Nocs Atelier. And as we know all these watches aren’t meant for people who want to be somewhere or time, or just don’t use the watch as timekeeper. These watches are for freemind people, someone who just enjoys life and doesn’t look at the time. You could also call these on hands watches “weekend watches”. So today we are looking at another one hand watch, but in my opinion, this one is really hard to read. But I liked the design. It is the Simpl watch One.
Simpl watch company is based n Thailand. The brand was found in 2013 by Tanachpak Warrnissorn and Alisa Kittipon. They wanted to create minimalistic timepieces with elegance and simplicity. They are relatively new and one of couple companies who makes one hand watches.
The watch we are taking a look today is Simpl Watch One Collection Silver Ash. The watch came in a simple box, nothing special. But when I took the watch out of the box I immediately noticed how good it was made. It had a decent amount of weight and felt really good. And I really like the lugs, they kind of remind me the Bauhaus style with the Nomos or Rodina I reviewed about 2 years ago.
So the case is made from 316L stainless steel. The finishing on the whole case is brushed and is done pretty good. The case is pretty simple with only a few angles. The case shape is round, the diameter is 40mm. Watch is 7.8mm thick, so it is pretty slim for the size and will be good as a daily wearer. The lug width is 20mm, that means finding interesting straps will be easy. The lugs are what I really like on this watch, they go at a sharp 45-degree angle. and I think they look really cool. On the right side you have push/pull crown and on the other side, you have a pretty cool etched Simpl logo, which is a nice touch. The case back is a screw in with some specification and logo engraved in. On top of the watch sits a K1 Anti-Reflective scratch resistant mineral with sapphire coating
Th dial is very minimal. It is in silver colour and has sunburst effect. Around the dial, there are the markers. The big ones are hours and each smaller index is 15 minutes and the smallest indexes are 5 minutes. So you can read time in about 5 minute precision. The hand is one long hand that goes from one corner to other. At first glance, you would think: “How do I read time?”. The is marked tip of the hand in a blue colour, and that is the end that you read, it is also slightly longer and has a sharp end.
The movement is Swiss made Ronda quartz. I couldn’t find which particularly, but I think it is the same that Botta Design and Slow watches uses, the Ronda 515.24H, but I could be wrong. The movement has one strange thing. If you want the watch to be precise, before you set the time, set it 5 minutes ahead to ensure it will be precise. The strap it came with was a regular nato strap, nothing special or worth mentioning. I would swap it for a nice leather one in some funky colours, then it would look really cool.
Overall the watch is interesting. It has a nice case, especially the lugs and that little logo that is etched on the left side of the watch is a nice touch. The watch is minimal, but there is attention to detail. And the price is very good, I would say that this is a bargain for the one hand watch, because the competitors cost a lot more.
