When it comes to art and watches, we usually see traditional art in watches and rarely we see modern art interpreted into a watch. Today we are gonna take a look at The Modern Art Watch from a company called Eoypso. I found this company in one French watch blog called lapetitetrotteuse.com, actually go check the blog out, of course, it is in French, but a great place to discover new and interesting brands there.

Eoypso is a Swiss company founded in 2016, by the Swiss engineer and designer E.Sarofim. Their main mission is to design and commercialize first class, modern and unique watches. All Eoypso watches are Swiss made. The watch was actually on Kickstarter and got funded.

The watch came in this rectangular box, nothing amazing about the box, but when I opened the box there was this cool looking dial just staring at me. I immediately noticed that it looks a bit similar to the Mondaine Railway watch, but it has its own charm. I also noticed that the silicone strap it comes with is super good, like really good. First time when I put it on my wrist it wrapped my wrist nicely and the strap is super soft to touch.

The case of the Modern Art Watch is made from 316L stainless steel. The diameter of the case is 42mm, the thickness is 9,6mm, lug to lug tip is 50mm and the lug width is 20mm. So the watch is in the number would look big, but it actually wears a bit smaller, feels like 40mm watches on the wrist. And it is very thin, so it goes well under cuff and daily it wears very good and you even don’t notice it on the wrist. The case has is finished in polished finishing. The watch has a pretty thick bezel line going around the dial and straight lugs that are main design cues of the case. The case back is screw down and the watch is rated at reasonable 5ATM (50m) of water resistance. The push-pull crown is coated in black PVD and has some good action. On top of the dial sits a flat sapphire crystal. Overall I like the case, it is something different, but in my opinion, the dial would look a ton better if the watch had a brushed finish.

The dial, in my opinion, is really cool. Seems that Swiss designers like the boxy shape of hands and hour markers as I seen a lot of original Swiss designers watches that have the same styling cues. The design consists of the tree colours white, red and black, is strictly geometric, abstract with some minimal art cues. So the dial is frosty white colour. The minute markers are black, big and fat rectangles, the hour markers are black squares. The hour hand is rectangle shape in red colour, the minute hand is also rectangular in black colour. The second’s hand has a stick shape, it is in white colour with a red tip. On 3 o’clock we have the Big Date function which is really cool to watch when it changes the date. But interestingly the date goes up to 39, I thought it has some meaning, but I could not find it on their site, so I went to watchuseek forum to find why the date goes to 39. And I found out that this is just a qwerk of this movement.

The movement in this watch is a Ronda Swiss quartz movement, calibre 519-11½  with the Big Date function. Ronda is really popular movements because they are reliable and precise. Battery lifetime is somewhere between 2,5 to 3 years. The strap is probably one of the softest and most comfortable silicone straps I have ever worn. It really wraps your wrist nicely and compliments the watch in daily wear as you hardly notice that it is on the wrist. The strap is black silicone with a smooth surface. It comes with a stainless steel buckle.

Overall I like the watch. The dial is something interesting. As I’m a fan of minimal art (you can really see that from most of my Instagram pictures) I really like this watch, and it is a lot better than many other minimal watch brands out there because this is purely made in Switzerland with Swiss parts and original Swiss design. And the price isn’t so big for a great design piece.
