Today we are gonna look at one of the newest releases from Thomas Earnshaw. This particularly isn’t my favourite one, as I really don’t like the open hearth watch faces.  But this is one of the rare watches that I slapped on the wrist and got a ton of compliments from women. And that is strange because from all the watches I own (30+) I get like one compliment per month on the watch, but this one got about 10 compliments in one day.

So the watch came in the same box as the other Earnshaw pieces. It is a very nice wooden box and inside you will find the watch, cleaning cloth, instructions and warranty. The first impressions were good, it looks a bit better in real life than on pictures on the website. And the first time when I took it out of the box I was really surprised by how light it is, it almost felt like an aluminium watch. I have a smaller and thinner mechanical watch which is heavier than this one. Being so light it actually wears very well on the wrist despite the 43mm diameter.

The Earnshaw Beaufort case is made of 316L stainless steel with a rose gold IP plating for that extra luxurious look. The machine work and finishing is done pretty good. The diameter is 43mm which I think is too big, I think 41mm would be maximum with this watch. In my opinion, Earnshaw should start making smaller watches, like 38, 39 and 40mm and I think many people would like that as they have a lot of great designs, but just a bit too big. The coin edged Breguet style case is 13,9mm thick and that is acceptable. From lug to lug it measures at 50mm so it wears quite large on the wrist. At 3 o’clock we have a signed pull/push crown. The crown is very easy to grip and wind the movement or change time. At 2:30 we have a small pusher with which you can manipulate the 24h subdial. The screw-in exhibition case back is stainless steel, but it isn’t coated in that IP rose gold plating because it would rub off pretty easily. As this is a more affordable model from this company, hardened AR coated mineral crystal is used on the front and back of this timepiece. On the front, it is a slightly domed and gives nice “pop” for the dial. The water resistance is 5ATM (50m) which is more than enough for a dress watch.

This white guilloche dial is quite stunning to look at, especially in daylight. It features and open heart dial which I’m not a big fan of, I just don’t like it. But the classic Roman numerals with Breguet style rose gold-tone hands help the look. A nice touch is the double Earnshaw logo on the counterbalance of the second’s hand. It is a rather simple dial layout, at 12 we have the 24h subdial. I like that there is no date window, I know many of the Earnshaw models, in my opinion, are ruined by the date window.

Inside the Beaufort you will find an automatic self-winding movement from Huangzhou. This movement features a 38-hour power reserve, 22 jewels. The accuracy of the movement is decent, mine runs at about +10 to +11 seconds a day. The movement lacks a hacking feature so some people may be upset. It isn’t the best movement to look at through the dial and case back, but it does it’s job well and looks decent.

The strap is made out of genuine leather with their signature E style buckle. The strap has that alligator pattern in matte. The strap is good and supple, but I really would like if they changed these straps and started to add some normal leather grain or suede straps in different colours, it would work much better in my opinion, because 90% of people who buy watches, swap the straps. The strap width is 22MM tapering to 20MM. The buckle is plated as well to match the case colour.

Overall it is an ok watch, I wouldn’t say it is the best out of Earnshaw that I reviewed, but for the price, you get a solid watch, automatic movement, good quality and finishing. There are some drawbacks like the size because the movement is twice as small as the case and I think this watch at 40mm would look killer. Anycase the price right now is 199£ and before it was 350£ so get yours while you can.
