RENARD is an Amsterdam based brand that was founded by two long-term friends and business partners. Their mission, as they say, is to create timeless and alluring watches at affordable prices that become symbols of effortless style.
“In an era where smart technology dominates time management we offer an elegant, analogue companion for your consideration. Renard – or fox in French – is a graceful, wild and intelligent creature that perfectly embodies the spirit of our new brand of watches.”
Today we are taking a look at Renard’s I think the most best looking piece, and it is Renard Grande Chrono Silver/Veau. I saw this and immediately was in love. I love this retro design. So I got one here for a review.
The Grande Chrono didn’t came in a huge box, but in rather small cardboard box. But it’s ok, sometimes the box isn’t so important. You open the box, and here it sits. I took it out of the box and first immpressions were good, the watch feels nice and hasn’t got that fashion brand feel like michael kors, or DW does. This feels more refined and original. But the first thing what I did, was swap the original strap, because in my opinion it didn’t suite the watch, it needed soemething vintage, so I contacted cheapestnatostraps and they hooked me up with this nice vintage pinewood color suede strap.
The case is made from stainless steel. The diameter is 40mm and about 12mm thick. The lugs are 20mm so it can fit a wide range of straps. The watch finishing is very good for the price. It has polished case back, bezel and underside of the case. The lugs and sides of the case are brushed. On the right side, you will find crown and pushers for the chronograph function. The crown is signed with Renard logo. The watches water resistance is 5ATM (50m). It has a domed mineral crystal, that gives it even more vintage vibe.
The dial is kind of panda style. The outer ring is black and has tachymeter scale on it, inner dial is brushed metal of some sort with applied hour markers. The inner dials are black with white markers and hands. The hour and minutes hands are kept minimal and are white, the seconds hand is black and also kept minimal. I chose this dia, because it looked very cool, I liked the vintage look it had. It kind of reminded me the 70s racing chronographs, but not omegas or heuer, but those small short living brands.
Movement inside is HMS Japanese quartz chronograph movement. The movement as all Japanese movements are very reliable and precise. They keep the time very well. The strap it came with was a regular black Italian leather strap, it was good, but I wanted to make this watch look really good, so I chose the cheapestnatostrap vintage suede leather one in mustard.
Overall the watch is really great piece. I think last month it got the most wrist time from all of watches. Mainly because I can match it with many outfits, and also because it has all features I need. It also wears very good on wrist, it’s light and not so big. Do you need to buy it? Oh yes! If you want something different, ofcourse it wont have the heritage that seiko, citizen or orient has for the same price, but atleast not many will have it.
