Spinnaker Cahill New England CaSP-5064 (Review) – Best Cahill so far!

Today we are gonna look at a Cahill SP-5064 from Spinnaker! This newer model in Cahill collection isn’t anything new, but a lot of my Instagram followers in a poll suggested this one and this exact colourway! Actually the first watch I reviewed from Spinnaker actually was one of the Cahill models which were discontinued now, but that was a pretty good watch and I think it was their smallest watch, but this one will be a bit bigger, but that doesn’t mean that it won’t be as good or even better, but we will see!

I won’t go into deeper details about the box it comes with, as all Spinnakers come in almost the same boxes with instruction manual and cleaning cloth. We will concentrate on the watch more. The first impressions of the Cahill are great! I really like that grey/greenish colour, it just looks so good and that relatively thin bezel with the glass insert! I also like the finish on the watch which is in this gunmetal colour, it just works so well with the dial!

The case of the Cahill is made of 316L stainless steel. The case is very well machined with nice lines and no imperfections were found. The whole case is IP coated in gunmetal colour with satin-brushed finishing and polished edge on the lugs and underside. I really like those polished edges on the lugs as it plays in the sun with the lines. The case shape is round with short/small curved lugs. The diameter is 433mm, the thickness is 15mm and from lug to lug it measures at 50mm. The watch actually wears and looks smaller than it is. When I opened the box it looked to me that it is almost 41mm, and I guess it it is due to that thin uni-directional bezel. On the wrist, it wears like it too, it just looks a bit beefy because of the thickness. On top of the case, you will find a 120 click uni-directional bezel with grey coloured glass insert. The bezel insert has lumed markings on it and shines pretty brightly in low light conditions. The bezel action is very clicky and precise as all Spinnakers. There is no play/wobble and it feels very sturdy! The grip is also pretty good and it is easy to turn, but not to the point that you can accidentally turn the bezel and lose your timing. At 3 o’clock we have a screw-in crown with Spinnaker logo engraved on top of it. The crown is pretty big and very easy to operate because it has no crown guards. The screw-in exhibition case back has a flat sapphire crystal on the back with some specifications engraved around it. On top of the case, you will find a slightly domed sapphire crystal. The water resistance is 200m (20ATM) which is more than enough to swim with the watch and enjoy other water activities with it on the wrist, but before that, I would just swap the leather strap to a rubber one or maybe a bracelet!

The dial on the Cahill has a matte grey dial. Around the dial, there is a chapter ring in the same gunmetal colour as the case with a minute track in white with lume markers at each hour. The  Arabic numerals are applied and in the same gunmetal colour with brushed finishing, sadly these ones aren’t lumed, it would make a killer lume shot in my opinion. At 3 o’clock we have a square date window with a white coloured frame which looks quite good and seems like they are listening to us watch reviewers and fans and finally, they didn’t install a white date window but made it at least black to try to match to the dial colour. The Mercedes hour hand and the index minute hands are both finished with brushed finishing and lumed. The lollipop-shaped second’s hand also has a little bit of lume. All the hands are also in the gunmetal colour. I actually wish that they did the seconds hand in a different colour or at least added some to the tip of it like orange, it would spice the watch up a little bit. The lume actually is pretty good and lasts about 3-4 hours tops.

The movement that is inside the watch is Japan made Seiko NH35, which is running at +15 to +18 seconds a day, at least for me. This movement is pretty popular in the microbrand world as 50% of watches that are coming out have this movement inside them. It has proven it’s reliability and easiness to service within many years. You just can’t go wrong with Japan made movements from Seiko. It is an automatic 24 jewel movement with 41-hour power reserve and beating away with 21,600 BPH. Spinnaker also throws on top of the movement a customized rotor in black colour.

The strap on the Cahill is really good as usual from Spinnaker! So if you need a nice leather strap for your watch, they also sell their straps separately, so go and check them out too! The dark grey leather strap looks really cool, and to me it actually looks brown and green sometimes. The strap is very soft and supple. The top is very soft, it feels like suede, but not exactly like it. The underline is black leather. The whole strap actually is water-resistant. Long-time I didn’t knew if that was a real thing, but it actually is and I tested it! Well, sort of, it is good for maybe first 10-15min, but after that, it soaks up. I’d better use a silicone strap for it if you want to go swimming for a longer time or enjoy the sea. It has some white contrasting stitching right by the lugs and on the ends of the strap. The tang-style buckle is signed and made from stainless steel and features the same brushed gunmetal finish just like the case. The strap width is 22mm and tapers to 20mm at the buckle.

Overall the watch is really great and good looking! This one is definitely a keeper! For the price, you get a very well manufactured watch, sapphire crystals on both sides, Japan made automatic movement, nice quality strap and overall very rugged watch. When it comes to the comfort of wearing the watch it feels very comfortable on the wrist and it isn’t that heavy in my opinion. If you are looking for an everyday diver that doesn’t cost that much and is automatic, this one is the way to go in my opinion! Kudos to Spinnaker for the very nice design! I’m impressed more and more with each watch they send me and I’m very thankful that I can be a part of this journey into making watches!
